Famous boxers such as Carl Froch, Amir Khan and David Haye have revolutionised boxing – successfully getting the younger generation involved in the boxing world. As soon as a big fight has been arranged, social media channels blow up with excitement as people start booking tickets and placing bets for their favourite boxer. Boxing was a male-only event at the Olympics until 2008, but since then big name female boxers such as Nicola Adams, Natasha Jonas and Laila Ali have paved the way for women, and now you see a lot more female-friendly boxing classes. At Get Into Martial Arts we try to encourage all types of people to become involved in sports such as boxing and even offer free taster sessions to help people find the martial arts class that’s right for them.
Recently we’ve been reading a lot of Boxing Monthly in the office, and have been kept up to date with all the latest boxing news as a result. Boxing Monthly was founded in 1989 and as such is now one of the largest boxing magazines in the UK. Boxing Monthly features columns from well-known experts such as Steve Bunce and Mark Butcher who share their opinions on the latest going-ons in the boxing world. Boxing Monthly even have a “Preachers Corner” featuring articles written by Billy “The Preacher” Graham. The average issue also includes a round-up of any newly released boxing DVDs, films and books along with reports and previews from the boxing beat in Britain.
At Get Into Martial Arts we think any magazine that encourages people to become passionate about a sport is great, especially when it’s martial arts. With Boxing Monthly, you never miss any big fight news including exclusive interviews and long anticipated fight results. The build-up to a big fight is more fun too, with everyone getting really into the spirit after catching up on the latest articles. The editor of Boxing Monthly is the International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Graham Houston, famous for covering boxing stories since as early as 1963. With a wealth of experience Graham ensures that only the best boxing news is featured in Boxing Monthly, and he has held the editor title since 1990.
As well as offering a monthly magazine for their readers, Boxing Monthly also have a hefty website and smartphone app where you can view columns from ex-boxing champions and some other big names from the boxing world. As well as being able to view the columns online, you can stay up to date with the latest matches including watching fight extracts and viewing the results.
